In loving memory of
LARRY BAKER
September 7, 1952 - May 15, 2026
His StoryLarry Baker passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, just weeks after the loss of his beloved wife, Cathy Baker, who preceded him in death on April 10, 2026. Over 42 years of marriage, Larry and Cathy built a life centered around family, friends, laughter, and adventure.
Born on September 7, 1952, Larry was raised in Indianapolis before moving to Colorado to attend the United States Air Force Academy, where he graduated in 1974. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, stationed at multiple Air Force bases, including in the Philippines, where he flew medevac transport aboard the C-9A. He often joked that the pitcher of beer poured over his head after receiving his C-9 assignment was one of the best beers he ever tasted. Following his military service, Larry spent his career flying for Delta Air Lines before retiring and continuing to fly private jets and travel with his friends and family.
Beyond his impressive career, Larry was known for his fearlessness and his ability to make every experience memorable. He was a marathon runner, cross-country bike rider, golfer, race car driver, passionate Jimmy Buffett fan, and unquestionably the life of every party. He even relished the “dinghy captain” title on sailing trips with friends. His enthusiasm for life inspired those around him, especially his children, whom he taught to travel often, live fearlessly, and embrace every opportunity life offered.
Larry accomplished many things throughout his life, but his greatest accomplishment was being an incredible husband and father. He leaves behind his children, Beth, Brooke (Alex Elsener), and Wyatt, who will carry forward the lessons, values, and adventurous spirit that he shared with them throughout his life. Through them and the countless memories he created with friends and family, Larry's legacy of laughter, courage, and generosity will continue to shape the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration for Larry will be scheduled in the coming months, details to follow.
For the last 18 years of his life, Larry battled multiple myeloma with the same toughness and determination that defined so much of who he was. We thank Dr. Van Rhee and his team at UAMS for fighting alongside him and continuing to push research boundaries to pave the way for future treatments.
